ECA supports the campaign that was initiated by the European Forum for Arts and Heritage and the European Cultural Foundation, aiming at increasing the EU budget for cultural cooperation from 7 to 70 cents pr citizen from 2007, a.o. with the following statement 18th of April 2005:
70 Cents for Culture!
European Council of Artists, an umbrella for interdisciplinary artists' councils and artists' organisations in 25 European countries within and outside the European Union, supports the campaign "70 cents for culture" and has recommended our member organisations to contact their national representatives in the European Parliament.
The gradually closer cooperation between the European countries must build on knowledge and experience of the variety and richness of the cultures within Europe. A growth in the EU-budget from 0,03% to the still modest share of 0,27% would permit a positive development of the cooperation and exchange in the areas of culture and arts - as a supplement to the national support for culture that remains responsible for the artistic creation and performance in the member countries.
