The European Council of Artists representing professional artists associations in 25 European countries on the occasion of its general assembly in Vilnius, 8 to 9 Oct. 2005, decided to strongly support the resolution of CISACs International Council of Authors and Composers of Music (CIAM) on the future European cross-border collective management of on-line copyright works.
The Amsterdam document of 21 Sept 2005 stresses the role of the creators in the reform discussion and is fully in line with the policy of ECA in respective discourses.
European representatives of a diversity of artistic expression share the deep concern for the implications of the recent discussions. This is not only a serious matter for music in the on-line world. The outcome of the discussions will eventually affect all art forms.
Therefore ECA wishes to express the need for consultations with the European artists concerned and for the recognition of their interests in the matter being as fair, legitimate and pressing as the interests of the consumers and the industry.
Vilnius 9 Oct. 2005
